Of course I am excited to start my summer, get some sun, and recharge. Even so, I can't stop thinking about how far my kids have come because they have fallen in love with learning. I'm thinking of those little guys and gals that depend on coming to school for stability and enjoy being with their friends daily. My group this year was definitely challenging form time to time, as I was also going though a rough patch trying to find my way in a new position.
This year was like starting over for me and I'm totally feeling the first year nostalgia. That's why I am excited about our writing project for this week. I know how I have viewed this year, but I want to get a feel what it looked like from my kiddo's eyes.
We are doing a last day of school portrait and 4-page flip book to recap the year. I know they are either going to be total goofballs on this project or write like 1 word because they are checked out. BUT I am pumped to see how it turns out. I know many of you are doing the same, so I would love to share it with you (fo' free) HERE!
I always made my kids write letters - a letter to me, to their former teachers, parents. And I don't know a ton about kinder - would writing letters about their year work for them? (Plus, they make a great keepsake - I always had them bound at Kinkos and they are on my bookshelf at home....memories!)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your last few days with your kiddos! :-)
I love the children being able to look back and choose their favorite part of the year, either by using prompters/discussions to get ideas going. We differentiate having prompts to write over etc. Theres space for children to draw - i love to see their pictures they can be so creative!! We put together a photo/memory book to take home as a keepsake full of different fun activities that can be completed on the lead up to the end of the year, i just think it's lovely to be able to look back on in years to come and the children LOVE completing it!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Summer :)
Michelle - I love the letters Idea, but I think my little ones need something a little more project based which is why we are doing the flip book. The book will then go in their memory bag :o) I do so love watching how much they have grown and cherish these last few days!
ReplyDeleteI think next year I will definitely do an activity over the last 2 weeks instead of just the last few days! Thanks for your ideas ladies!!
:o)
Just added your link to my blog! Can't wait to meet up this summer! The letters are a sweet idea! I am having all my second graders write letters to the incoming second graders about what they loved about second grade. Then, I'll put them on desks for the first day next year. :)
